About Me

I have many years' experience in the IT, multimedia, web and educational worlds. I believe that my skills and experience make me a very competitive candidate for many positions. I am one of the rare types of people who can excel in the technical world as well as the design arena. I am a creative designer, a logical programmer, a motivating trainer, and an accomplished artist.

Flash, PHP, and mySQL (with a generous helping of CSS, JavaScript and HTML) are my tools-of-choice for developing interactive multimedia and web applications. The more complex projects I have completed (for a textbook publishing company) involved online homework/practice problems for college-level chemistry classes. I was the lead developer on these project, and for each application, we constructed a student front-end and an instructor back-end. The instructor side included reporting tools, a grade book and assignment-creation tools. The first project, general chemistry, required a conversion from a VB-based CD-ROM to Flash (converting the VB code to ActionScript - not an easy task to unravel code written by chemistry professors).

Most recently, I have used both my teaching skills and technical knowledge in my position as Instructional Technology Manager at Morehouse School of Medicine. I led a team in the creation of educational multimedia applications. These applications are designed to take the place of traditional lectures and allow students to explore complex concepts at their own pace, anytime, anywhere. Within each application, I constructed a variety of ways to access the content (voice-over, text, video, images, etc.) For one of our most recent applications, I devised a way for students to export their notes into Microsoft OneNote. Anatomy Cross Sections was set up for students to test their knowledge of anatomy through labeling exercises and questions that emulate the experience of the Medical Board exams. This application was presented at an expiermental biology conference and generated much interest in the attending educators and publishers. Another successful project, Introduction to Dissection, has been downloaded by universities around the world.

I have led many long-term, involved projects, some worth $100K+. As project manager, I served as the client's contact within the company. I have learned to walk that fine line of retaining client satisfaction while also keeping the project within scope. I have worked with a variety of professional people (editors, advertisers, photographers, etc.) to meet deadlines and to efficiently resolve problems that occur within our time constraints. I am also cognizant of internal clients. For the past 5 years I led a team responsible for prepping the laptops for the year's incoming students. This project required clear communication and a coordinated effort between me, my team, the IT department, the registrar and the instructors to ensure that all software titles necessary for the students were installed and working on each machine. We delivered the laptops on time and efficiently each year.

I have taught a variety of college-level courses, including photography, Flash and web design. I have created training materials (both print and online versions) for a variety of internal training needs. These materials covered such topics as: instructions for new applications or processes, basic computer skills training, and Microsoft Office training. At Morehouse School of Medicine, I delivered live classes open to all employees several times a month.
